Heading down the driveway

It's hard to remember a time when this little boy's mode of transportation was a Red Flyer wagon.  And how did he look in the driver's seat of that infamous Little Tikes Flintstones car, chasing after his brother up as he rode up and down the cul-de-sac?  I can picture him on his Big Wheel, a Christmas gift from Santa, it's tires grinding noisily on the pavement as he flew like lightning down the street.  It was just last week that, I think, he finally learned to pedal all by himself on that little, red tricycle.  Thank goodness we take pictures because there are so many precious little things about him to remember, and time passes much too quickly.  Now, right before my eyes, I have a two-weelin' fiend, and the Little Tikes car and Big Wheel sold quickly and went home with another little boy.

Now, we have a bonafide bike rider zipping down our cul-de-sac.  And from the looks of things, he may be due for an upgrade. Suddenly, his little legs look much too long for the Trek Mountain Lion.  The First Little Nguyen spent many happy days pedaling on that blue bike until he grew into a new one.  I remember when Chi bought it for him and we loaded it up into the minivan.  He was a kindergartener then, just as the Seoncd Little Nguyen is now.  Then in his big-cat-loving phase, he read the words Mountain Lion on the bike and knew it would be perfect for him.  Now, somehow, the Second Little Nguyen has almost outgrown the Mountain Lion and will need to move on to bigger and faster two-wheelers.  Sigh.  I wonder if there is a bike named the Millenium Falcon.

   

Calling it quits for the day

This may be the last time I ever see the Second Little Nguyen pushing this up our steep, steep driveway.  I think I need to place an ad for this one:

Intensely-loved and well-maintained, with handbrakes, a kickstand and new tires.  Hosed-down and reconditioned after warned-against rides through sloppy mud puddles and off-road, on-lawn racing.  Has survived many trips on the American Tobacco Trail and Raleigh Greenway trails.  A few minor scratches to the paint after a minor collision with a mailbox post.
