Ringing in the New Year!

One thing we did not ask Santa to leave in our stockings was this nasty cold we are all still fighting! While we are all on the road to recovery, we opted instead to spend a quiet New Year's Eve inside rather than heading out into the cold wind to watch the acorn drop downtown. Nothing glitzy and glamorous...nothing special...we have two Little Nguyens! We made pizza dough late in the afternoon, let it rise and made our own pizzas for dinner. Daddy's pizza won the Best All Around, taking the blue ribbon for Tastiest Pie and Most Beautiful Creation. The Little Nguyens loved building their own pizzas, even if they did have to put one mandatory red pepper beneath the cheese! And it was a hoot to watch them run to the oven, turn on the light, and give us the lowdown on how the pizzas were baking. We shared our last meal of 2008 together, cleaned up, and then headed up the hill to a quiet Starbucks (or "Starbooks", as the Second Little Nguyen calls it) for dessert and hot cocoa. Was it the warm cocoa or the hypnotic music that lulled us all into a sleepy trance? Who knows, but it was nice to spend a quiet night together, the last night of the year, doing what we love to do most with each other...nothing special. Sometimes those "nothing special" moments are the most special ones of all.
