Boo Bash 2010

Last year's Halloween Boo Bash was a blast, and it didn't take a genius to realize that planning this year's party would be even more fun. The Friday before Halloween was a teacher workday at the Little Nguyens' school, so it was perfect afternoon to have our 2nd Annual Nguyen Family Boo Bash! Boo Bash 2010 was decidedly smaller than last year, and there were no little girls (insert sad face), but there was a lot of spooky fun! One thing I loved as a child was the Halloween carnival at my elementary school. We got to dress up in our costumes and then our parents turned us loose in our school to play games and eat way too much crap. It was a really fun time with our friends to be out in the dark on a school night, but to this day I have no idea how we managed to trick-or-treat after all of that carnival fun and still be in bed by 8:30 -- because bedtime at my house was always 8:30. With our Boo Bash in the afternoon, we got some extra use out of our costumes (I hate those scary ones!) and no one stayed up too late! Perfect!

Courtney was here with us this year, and that was great to have an extra person to bounce ideas off of while planning it. For activities, back was the Bone Hunt (treasure hunt with skeleton clues), which led us to a stash of Halloween goodies. The Mummy Wrap was a hoot to watch! The kids were divided into three teams and raced to completely encase one teammate in toilet paper! The best part, though, was watching the mummies break out! For a craft, I thought the kids would like making candy necklaces with bone-shaped candy, but I completely overstimated 8-year old boys and their love of crafts. We made it through stringing the skeleton necklaces, though, despite one child's absolute refusal to string his candy bones. LOL! By the time we were finished with that, the little monsters had worked up an appetite. They noshed on the ever-popular Mummy Dogs (hot dogs wrapped in strips of crescent roll), Bat Ears (Doritos), Goblin Fingers (cheese-stuffed celery), and Vampire Fangs with Blood Sauce (apple slices with red caramel dip). Courtney got DOWN with her crafty self and made this year's Boo Bash dessert -- Skull Cakes -- and those were a big hit! Here's to another successful Boo Bash! It was frightfully fun to plan!
