The First Little Nguyen has always been known to our immediate family as "Little Superstar," a nickname given to him by Ong, his grandfather, shortly after he was born. But he has never really been the sporty type. Tennis, yes. Soccer, no way. Hiking, oh yeah! Football, nope. Well, over the course of the summer, he has shown a real interest in playing basketball. So, we signed him up to be a part of a great organization that will teach him the ins and outs of the game without all of that mean-spirited competitiveness present in so many other parts of life. We love Upward basketball for this reason as well as the Christ-centered emphasis. While learning to deal with competition is part of life, and the First Little Nguyen does have an inherently competitive nature, it shouldn't be the most important thing in learning to play a sport.
Being part of a team means that one should look like part of a team. So, when the First Little Nguyen came home from practice this week with his new reversible uniform, he was completely pumped! Modeling new clothes for us is not high on his list of priorities, but he literally stripped down right in the middle of the living room to show us his new outfit. WOW! He instantly morphed from our little Superstar into a real All Star kind of kid! We can't wait to see him play with his team in his first game. That official one won't happen for a few weeks yet, but I am sure he will be practicing in his uniform in our cul-de-sac every day until then!
