A Summer's Vacation

I cannot believe it has taken me nearly a month to write this, but summer has proven to be busier than I ever could have imagined. While I admit it is nice to have the Little Nguyens home with me during the day, it is difficult to find a few moments to post something to my blog! The few moments I have to myself, I have been quite selfish, allowing myself to become absorbed in a new book (I'm so 2000 and late reading the Twilight series) or taking a nap! How decadent!

We spent the end of June and first few days of July in Greenwich with Chi's family. The weather was warm and wonderful, minus the humidity! The Little Nguyens loved talking with Ong and Ba, playing tennis with their aunts and uncles, watching trains (many, many times), exploring Uncle Toan and Aunt Carolina's new house, eating breakfast after church in one of Ong's favorite diners, frolicking in the sand and surf at Greenwich Point, and eating lots of great food! Most of all, though, I think they loved catching up with their cousin, the lovely Miss Audrey. Audrey and the Second Little Nguyen are just a few months apart; they are compatriots. And the First Little Nguyen loved having two Little Nguyens to be older than! It took awhile for him to come down off that high after we returned. I suppose it comes with the territory of being the oldest child there. After being with Audrey for a few days, they were inseparable, and it was quite easy for me to see how lovely it would be to add a little girl into our mix.

One of the highlights of our visit was probably the last day, when we all took a ferry ride to City Island, not too far off the Greenwich shore. The ferry ride itself was beautiful and breezy, and the Little Nguyens loved looking at the beautiful waves and scenery. Once there, they swam with their aunts and uncle, enjoyed some freeze pops from the concession stand, and dug their toes into the soft sand.

On Friday evening, we all drove out to Greenwich Point at dusk to enjoy the amazing fireworks display on the beach. The Little Nguyens were thrilled to be out past dark (a rare treat!) and snuggled up close while they enjoyed the colorful display of pyrotechnics. All of the sailboats and yachts on the water were so pretty with their lights twinkling in the night....another year, we will have to try to view the fireworks from that angle!

It was wonderful to have a little reprieve from the daily grind, spending time with people we love in the most relaxing way possible. We wouldn't want it any other way...
