The First Little Nguyen hosted a Halloween Boo Bash the Friday before Halloween. There was no school due to a teacher workday, so it was the perfect time for some pre-Halloween fun!
Just before lunch, twelve little trick-or-treaters arrived in full costume for Monsters & Munchies. Their costumes were a hoot! The kids teamed up for a Skeleton Hunt to find bones hidden in mysterious places around the house. They made silly Monster Masks and decorated Monster cupcakes for their dessert. They even jammed to some Halloween music, doing the Monster Mash on the living room floor and dacing like zombies to Michael Jackson's "Thriller." That was the best part of the whole afternoon! We awarded ribbons for the cool costumes the kids put together: among the most original was guitarist Joe Perry from the band Aerosmith, a midnight fairy, and a geisha.
Our dining room table was just big enough to accomodate our twelve guests for our Boo Bash lunch-- it was like a big cafeteria minus the food flying through the air (well, except for that one Cheeto!). Miraculously, I only found one spot of green frosting on the chair upholstery, and after the party the doggies took care of sweeping the rug for any crumbs that might have fallen! Our guests dined on Mummy Dogs (hot dogs wrapped in strips of crescent roll), Bat Ears & Monster Fingers (Doritos & Cheetos), Skeleton Bones & Ghost Dip (carrots & Ranch dressing -- the token health food item!), Witches Brew (orange juice & ginger ale). The menu was the most fun part to plan, and the kids were filling their plates so fast that I didn't even have time to take a photo of the spooky spread! In fact, we nearly ran out of Mummy Dogs! Rats tails.... (Note to self: next year, specify how many Mummy Dogs each seven-year old boy is allowed to take before they begin to pile them on.....)
The rainy weather didn't really permit us to go outside, and the trick-or-treaters had lots of energy! I am so thankful for: 1) the CD player and 2) that Chi took the day off (and dressed in full Caveman costume!) to enjoy the First Little Nguyen's party. And, as a bonus, Aunt Susan and Uncle John rearranged their schedules to help with crowd control as well. It was a ton of fun to have them there!
The First Little Nguyen was sad to see his party come to an end, but he is already talking about a next year. I guess that means we will have to call this the First Annual Nguyen Family Boo Bash! Let next year's planning begin!
