Flippers

The Little Nguyens are Crocs kids. Always have been. Their Aunt Suzy bought them their first (and second) pairs of Crocs, and they have hardly been able to stand wearing any other shoe on their feet since. Who can blame them? Although not terribly fashionable for adults, I have to admit my Mary Jane's are quite comfortable. But for little kids they are nothing short of cute. And they are very practical -- when they are dusty and dirty, wash them in a bathtub with some warm, soapy water (or that overpriced Crocs cleaner, if you prefer that) and they clean up quite well. Since they outgrew their other two pairs from Aunt Suzy, Mommy and Dad got them some fresh, springy ones at Eastertime, and they have pretty much lived in those all summer long.

Well, lately the Littlest Nguyen has been envious of his older brother's flip flops. Usually, the First Little Nguyen just wears them to the pool, but lately he has taken to slipping into them at any given time. I haven't really thought the Littlest Nguyen was old enough for them until now since they can be a bit difficult to keep on your feet if you aren't used to wearing them. Last night, on our Date Night, no less, Chi & I shopped for some for him. When we returned from dinner with new flip flops for the Second Little Nguyen, he said, "Are dose really for me?" He couldn't believe it. He does use some hand-me-downs from the First Little Nguyen, but it's not like he never gets anything new! When we told them they were for him, he exclaimed, "Tank you!" as if we had just handed him a new fire truck or a million bucks. It really warmed my heart to hear the expression in his voice. The Littlest Nguyen doesn't really ask for a lot of things, so we know he really wants something if he goes to the trouble to tell us about it. He put them right on this morning after he got dressed and said, "I like my new flippers, Mommy!" We laughed at his adorable misuse of the words flip flop, and he smiled proudly as I snapped this picture. As we headed off to the Farmer's Market, I tucked his Crocs into my bag just in case his little feet got tired. But they didn't.
