Happy Sick Day!

Happy 6th Birthday, First Little Nguyen! Unfortunately, it's a sick birthday. The First Little Nguyen has been really sick since last Friday. On Tuesday, a test for Group A flu turned up positive. On top of that, yesterday he was diagnosed with scarlet fever, which is a form of strep. He has been in and out of a fever haze, really, since Saturday...very listless...very worrisome...drinking but not eating. A very wise doctor immediately recognized the scarlet fever rash yesterday, and she faxed a prescription to our pharmacy in a wink and a flash with her Blackberry. We woke him from a feverish slumber late last night to get a second dose of antibiotic into him, and when we did, he asked, "Is it my sixth birthday yet?" When we told him it was, we saw a hint of a smile! This morning he showed the first glimpse of his old, well self. He climbed into bed with us and said, "It's my birthday now." And we cuddled. Thankfully, we're on the downhill side, now.

Being stuck at home and missing school has been difficult for the little guy. On top of that, yesterday we had to tell him his long-awaited dinosaur birthday party was going to have to be postponed so he could recover (and so I could set off an antibacterial bomb in my home). So, we brought down his birthday present -- the LEGO City Polic Mobile Command Center (complete with all 524 pieces -- put together in record time...2 hours, 47 minutes)! He was thrilled, as he has been obsessed with looking at it in his LEGO Club catalog for the past four days! So, that will give him something engaging to work on today. The rest of our birthday celebration will have to wait until Daddy comes home this evening. So, more pictures to come. At least he was able to smile for the camera! That's a big change from being in and out of consciousness, really, for the past several days.
