The Little Nguyens are my Little Diggers! Not unlike every other boy in history, they just love to dig, whether it be in the sand, mud, dirt, mulch...whatever. The perfect day for them is spent in the sandbox at any park, or in the backyard burrowing in my mulch! My solution to this problem was to purchase an outdoor activity table, which I should have done a long, long time ago! It has a side for sand and one for water, actually. But given that we are currently experiencing the worst drought in North Carolina history, we are holding off on filling it with any water. It even has a cover with elastic fasteners to keep water and bugs out. And how child-friendly it is! Chi did a little research and found that the dust from regular playground sand can be harmful when inhaled, but the newest product from Crayola -- colored sand -- does not produce that dust. It is non-staining, non-bleeding, and non-toxic! Hooray for Crayola! The Little Nguyens chose bright blue sand ("It looks like water, Mom, so we don't need to put any water in the table!") over pink, green, or purple. I
said, "WOW! What a neat idea. Yeah, let's get this colored sand! It's so pretty!" And then we brought it home. And we joyfully filled the sand table. And then the digging began. WHAT was I THINKING?! Inevitably, the sand went flying when the dump trucks, diggers, and graders got to work! There were trucks, diggers, and bright blue sand all over the deck, which, by the way doesn't exactly "go" with the mulch when one sweeps it off the deck. This problem will lead us to Target tomorrow for a hand broom and dust pan combo. The Little Nguyens will learn to sweep! But, they are having fun with it, and it will keep them out of my mulch. But something tells me, I am going to be vacuuming up a lot of blue sand
by the back door!
