My sister, Becky, and her family came to visit this weekend. Her daughter (my utterly lovely niece), the First Little Gunther, stayed with us for a few weeks this past summer, and the Little Nguyens grew to love their cousin more like an older sister. Well, for this visit, the First Little Gunther brought her brother, the Second Little Gunther, and the cousins had such fun spending time together! Our other sister, Susan, and her husband joined us on Sunday morning for brunch, and then we all packed up our bicycles and headed out for a beautiful fall ride in Umstead Park.
Leaves sprinkled the trail like colorful bits of confetti, and the cool scent of fall was in the air. Our ride ended up becoming a little longer than we had originally planned, so after biking over nine miles, we were all ready for some refreshments and a late afternoon snooze.
The First Little Nguyen rode the entire nine miles on his own bicycle. At the seven mile mark, he was beginning to tire, but an unexpected splashy ride through a shallow, muddy stream made him perk up! How could that not be the highlight of a six-year old boy's bike ride? His comment summed up the experience: "That was SO cool!"
